Case Study

Stewart Lynch

Founder, PureDev Software | Creator of 10x Editor

“When you’re under constant self-imposed pressure, it’s easy to neglect the drivers of long-term success — physical capacity and clarity of mind. The changes I made, and the structured support I received, created the foundation that allowed this vision to become reality.”

Background

After more than two decades working in the games industry, delivering high-profile titles under sustained pressure, Stewart Lynch set out to build 10x Editor — a next-generation C++ development environment designed to handle exceptionally large and complex codebases.

The ambition was deliberately bold. The product would compete directly with Microsoft’s global development tools, setting a new benchmark for performance, usability, and scale in environments where existing solutions were no longer fit for purpose.

This level of technical and commercial ambition required prolonged periods of deep focus, precision, and sustained cognitive output over extended development cycles.

The Challenge

Delivering a product of this magnitude demanded sustained performance over months and years, not short bursts of intensity.

To execute successfully, Stewart needed to maintain:

  • Absolute clarity of vision and decision-making
  • Consistently high cognitive performance under load
  • Robust physical health to reduce stress-related illness risk
  • Reliable sleep, recovery, and downtime built into the week
  • Sufficient energy reserves to maintain athletic training alongside work

Without a structured approach, the risk was familiar: erosion of clarity, compromised health, and eventual burnout — long before the product reached maturity.

Approach

Together, we implemented a precision-led health and performance strategy designed to support sustained capacity under pressure, rather than short-term intensity.

The work treated nutrition, supplementation, sleep, recovery, and training as interdependent systems, aligned to the realities of long-horizon technical execution.

  • 01
NutritionHighly tailored nutrition to support immune resilience, metabolic health, and stable energy across long development days.
  • 02
SupplementationTargeted supplementation to support cognition and protect neurological function — a critical asset in deep technical and creative work.
  • 03
Sleep, Recovery & RegenerationSleep, rest, and recovery protocols structured to maintain clarity, creativity, and long-term stamina, even during demanding build phases.

This ensured that long hours and sustained workload were supported — not undermined — by physiology.

Outcome

The result was the successful creation and launch of 10x Editor, now used by developers working on some of the largest software projects in the world.

Rather than chasing productivity metrics, the outcome was measured in capacity retained and clarity sustained throughout the build.

Functional Gains

  • Sustained deep-work periods without cognitive drop-off
  • Demanding build delivered without erosion of focus or judgement

Personal Gains

  • Burnout avoided
  • Physical training maintained alongside professional demands

This work was not about pushing harder. It was about ensuring the human system could reliably support long-horizon creative and technical execution at scale.
